Because proteins start denaturing (cooking) at about 41C.

PS 14 chickens at various ages

I have 7 at the moment:

1 x black rock (Claudia - the head girl)
4 x pekin bantams (Gregory - head boy + Mavis, Josephine and Ginger)
2 x marsh daisy ('The Twins' aka Samanda (they hatched when Big Brother was showing!)

Have had anywhere between 4 and 13 but some have shuffled off to the big roost in the sky and some (my last attempts at Cuckoo Maran and Araucunas) turned out to be fellas and left home when they reached puberty! Will try again in the spring when one of the bantams goes broody.  :D

Marans cross Aracunas ? What are you hoping for ? Blue or Brown eggs ?
