DD - Big Daddy was a famous TV wrestler and his first name was Shirley! - he was a - pretty  big guy too! - a bit of a beefstake really.

That was way too subtle for me and went straight over the top of my head!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Isn't it strange how different people have different views. I can't stand Costoluto Fiorentino, I find them dry and too difficult to skin.

My real favourite is Summer Cider. Deep apricot colour and intense sweet taste.

However, its a good job we don't all like the same things  :D

If you want an easy skinning tom Amish Paste is my favourite large tomato although it's more of a plum than a beefsteak. Produced for bottling or canning ,easy to peel very few seeds and very good flavour !

I find that hard to skin toms are often thin skinned and do not need skinning in the first place ! :D

My favourites are Black Sea Man and Chocolate Cherokee, however, Headgardener's post did make me go and look at Summer Cider and I've just bought seeds for them

The thought of the combination of purple/red and apricot orange juicy beefsteak toms on a plate was too much to resist

Any excuse  :nowink:

I agree with the Black Sea Man - it was a revelation when I grew it last year (thank you!) and it's top of my growing list now.

OK, that's it. I'm not looking at this thread again. Far too dangerous for my S.B.A. (seed-buying addiction).

What does anybody consider an average number of beefsteak tomatoes to a plant?

My plans this year are to grow one plant each of about 25 different varieties and I'm beginning to wonder whether I'll be able to eat them all. ???

I did Black Russian last summer. Absolutely outstanding. A taste sensation. I'm trying again this year, even though i know the reason it was successful is we had an exceptionally warm summer. I live in hope.

Depends on how much pasta you eat, I fill my small chest freezer with toms and peppers every year and still run out in January, and although I do not grow 25 different varieties I still grow at least 25 plants.
