problem plot
« on: December 02, 2013, 22:30 »
I have started to tackle my 3rd plot which runs against the tops of my other 2. This is the first full season and I covered it in plastic as it was full of nettles and brambles, it also had a tree which is now down but the roots are still in. Upon digging I find it to be full of infill and can't afford the time to clear it and is very un even.
Can I put my fruit trees here if the hole is well prepared? I can also wood chip the area also if it would help.
If the trees aren't suitable what's best to do?

Thanks
Dmg

You could try some soft fruit in there, stuff like gooseberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb are all pretty tolerant. They would all be happy with a bark chip mulch

As well as fruit - pumpkins or squash could also be planted in prepared pockets,  using weed membrane to minimise work ;)

Weed membrane covered with bark chippings will make it look nice and tidy, especially as this is a third plot.  Our neighbour has half of his plot covered in this  and grows an excellent variety of fruit trees and bushes... and it is very very low maintenance
