When you say North east do you mean N E England? I live there and I have never heard of bark fines, could it be we just don't have them in north-east england?
If you mean wood chippings then a tree surgeon might the guy to talk to.
Hi Annen
Yes, NE is for our beloved, peaceful & beautiful North East England. I am only 7 mile south of Newcastle.
The product I am after is composted bark fines (very small particles of bark), which when added to clay disrupts the bond between the clay particles preventing them sticking together & creates the pores necessary to drain off excess water. Along with well rotted horse manure etc. it is the cheapest way to alter the clay's structure.

Dandies & Turf&Stuff actually offer the product but in very large bags and I am only wanting 2 x 70 ltr to do the job I need as I already have the rotted horse manure. Dandies kindly offered a couple of bags to suit but by the time delivery goes on top they would around £20.00 each so not really a deal for Geordie.
I need to drain off the water trapped in the greenhouse where against, & under, the path is a heavy strip of clay that acts as a dam wall, and I want to release the excess of water and let it run into the land drain just outside of the door.
Laying an extension to the land drain would not help as it would be in the clay, so would not help to drain at this time.
arugula may be on the right track with his comment, as the composted bark fines are generally listed under that banner on web sites, and is used as mulch etc and not only for breaking down clay.
Thanks everyone but please keep and eye out for small quantities for me. Ta.
