Big pile of blooming gubbins in the nest box

My wife has just discovered a large pile of blood and mucous in the nest box. Our oldest hybrid (2.5 yrs old) is looking a bit withdrawn, but eating and drinking and legged it when I tried to catch her. I couldn't see any sign of prolapse when I tried to lift her tail feathers, she looked pretty clean. Everyone else looks fine.

Could this be a "Lash" and the end of her laying?

Hi Ben, that sound more like a suspicious dropping than a lash.

Can you keep the hen separated from the others with some clean litter just to make sure?  It may possibly be a one off, or it may be a sign of something not quite right.

Blood in sroppings always makes me think of a high worm burden or coccidiosis - though at 2.5 years, she is a little old for cocci.

When were your hens last worked wtih flubenvet (or similar chemical?)

Hope everything is OK, and it was just a one off :)

Not even certain who it was, as all eating and drinking happily today. No repeat of the mess so far today either, though I will have a hunt around the run to check.

Regarding worming they were all done about 2 months ago with Marriages flubenvet food and I started worming them again on Monday, to use up the food. Is it possible that this has been triggered by the worming agent?

I doubt it, flubendazole is pretty innocuous to the treated aminal.  You would have to give a huge overdose for ther to be any adverse events.

Sonds like it was a one off, but I would still keep an eye out over the coming days just to make sure they're all OK.
