Any one know how long you should wait before worming ex battery hens :?:
Happiest in the countryside.
Breathe deeply, and let the butterflies fly in formation!

I would do it as soon as they have settled in and seem happy with their new life.

Yes - worm them straight away. i use the vermX granules, but would like to know how often to do this ...i know they say every month, but i can't believe that is really necessary - surely not through the winter ?  I have had my 8 x caged x batts since september and have wormed them twice. Most of them have feathered up and look reasonable now. I used to use flubenvent - but its hard to measure out for a few birds, and i don't want to lose the use of any eggs. I make my own dry mix  ( barley, oats, wheat bran, alfafa, seaweed powder, mixed seeds ) up to supplement the layers feed and add garlic granules to that as a natural anti parasitic, and i apply ivomectin to the back of the hens necks twice a year for good measure.

Verm-x is a herbal mixture so safe to use frequently.  It needs to be used frequently as it is very inefficient not actually killing all the worms, and has no action against lung worm.

Flubenvet is more efficient and kills worms and eggs including lung worm.  It can be used every 3 to 6 months and there is no need not to eat the eggs.
