I have cabbages this year with outer leaves as big as dustbin lids and huge pumpkin leaves that are shading out everything in their wake!

Next year, I would like to grow some smaller varieties of regular veggies; particularly cabbage, swede, turnip, mange toute, sugar snap and lettuces.

I grow Hispi and Minicole cabbages which don't get huge 

I don't think I've found smaller varieties of

swede, turnip, mange toute, sugar snap and lettuces.

turnips you can just pick when they are small, the top growth isn't too big at that stage, and of course you can harvest most lettuces when they are small 

Harrier butternut is a very compact squash, not taking up more than  3ftx3ft here and giving  4 or 5 small butternuts in most years or grow Sweet Dumpling up a frame, rather than at floor level.

I grow a compact savoy cabbage called Samantha.  My husband and I don't need a cabbage the size of a small house    Hispi is a fab little cabbage. I picked one last night for tea    There are plenty of small cauli varieties.  Lettuce wise you can't get much smaller than Little Gem

I believe if you plant the so-called "smaller" varieties closer together, they don't grow as big.
