Small Egg......
« on: July 16, 2013, 08:10 »
Attached is a pic of an egg I found yesterday. I have an enclosed area where I keep Mr & Mrs B. O. (Billy & Betty Orpington) and a BO cross, Buffy.  Both the hens lay regularly each day and their eggs are normal size, one white, one pinkish white.  In the same enclosure I have 2 x 14 week old Exchequer Leghorns, 2 x 16 week old Cotswold Legbars and a hybrid, Hilda  a giant of a bird, who is about 24 weeks old.   One of the latter 5 laid this tiny egg............

well it wont be the exchequers as they lay white eggs. It may be a wind egg (also called a fart egg, witches egg etc) - if you crack it open it may be just all albumen or just have a speck of yolk rather than a proper yolk.
Staffies are softer than you think.

It would be funny if it was Hilda's as she is a big girl  When I first got hens my Columbian Blacktail laid 3 huge eggs (see avatar)  no it seems to be the other way  lol

I found a wind egg the other year, it is quite round and the size of a large marble.  I kept it (don't know why) but have not opened it!

Yes  this is more round and about the size of a grape.  One of the other hens has pecked it so I might blow it and see what comes out........  its not big enough to have with my soldiers!!!

As your chooks are young and practising the laying thing they make a mistake occasionally and this is why you have this egg. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
