Wilting Tarragon
« on: June 26, 2013, 16:25 »
Well, here I am again. I buy a plant, treat it as described on the label and it goes sick. I bought a small tarragon in a pot. decided it needed potting on. The label says poor soil in sun so I added sand to the compost. It did ok until a few days ago it started wilting. It had been in the greenhouse and I might have missed a watering . It soon picked up after I watered it but now it's wilting again. Tried seaweed but no good.  :(

Any tips ?

OK...  did you buy it from a garden centre or a supermarket veg department ?

Photo needed, please of wilted plant and of roots - knock it out of the pot and gently shake off the soil before photgraphing.

What's the seaweed for ??

It was from a garden center/farm shop. Not supermarket. Don't want to disturb the roots at this stage. Seaweed is good for any plant as a tonic.

As in for growing on or eating now ?

Don't want to disturb the roots at this stage.

It's probably going to die anyway but if we have a look now we might save the next one from the same fate.

Seaweed is good for any plant as a tonic.

Seaweed may be good as a plant food but won't be any use for reviving a badly wilting plant.

When did you buy the plant ?

It could simply be lack of water if you have repotted it in free draining compost then if in direct sun transpiration will be exceeding water uptake.

Any newly transplanted plant needs a little protection from direct sun until its new feeder roots have grown. Try keeping it out of direct sun and keep well watered.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

Ok, will do thanks. A herb plant is for growing if in soil. It was sold as a young plant, not as a herb in supermarket as it was tiny.
