Supermarket Basil
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:52 »
Hi everyone, Have just bought some basil in a pot from the supermarket.

Can anyone tell me if this would be one plant in one pot or would it be several plants in a pot?

Also, should I put it (them) into a bigger pot to grow

Thanks

I haven't split mine. I gave it a pinch of BFB and it's shot up, given about 4 cuts and is now on its last legs.

The supermarket herbs are quite hard to keep going, as they grow them in very different conditions from those which you can offer. Can you tell if there is more than one stem? I grow basil from seed in large pots, multiple seeds to a pot.

Will definately be about 6-12 plants depending on size.

When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

If I buy supermarket herbs I allus plant out into new fresh Compost / medium.  To keep the Basil going I take off a couple of shoots and stick them in a glass of water until the roots go mad, then just re-pot.  One plant can be kept going all summer like that.  works for me anyway.
