The advantages of Liming ?
« on: June 16, 2013, 15:04 »
Hi All,

Today I pre limed the soil where my Winter Brassicas are going to reduce the affect of Club-root.

What other benefits does liming our soil bring? Are there any other benefits?

My soil is light & sandy.

Thanks

Acid soils do not easily release their nutrients for our plants to absorb.  Lime helps to break down the humus in the soil and releases the nutrients from them.

Worms also prefer alkaline soils.

Soil also needs nutrients added in the form of manure or compost to provide a reservoir of nutrients and improve water holding.  But as previously said don't add lime and manure at the same time.
