Yay, first harvest
« on: June 02, 2013, 00:00 »
Managed to get the first pickings of the year from the allotment today. I was thinning the pak choi and thought that the plants looked large enough that I could eat the thinnings, so I took them home and cooked them. They seem to have a much milder flavour than pak choi I have bought at the local market, don't know if that is because they were small. I'll leave the others to get a bit bigger.

That's wonderful Al!  :)  I remember sitting with my Mum pricking out the brassicas and munching on the leavings.  :tongue2:
I've grown pak choi for the first time this year and they do grow quite quickly (lovely looking plants, especially the purple ones), I'm sure you'll really enjoy them.  :)

well done..its inspirational when you start getting the fruits of your labours..so far weve had lettuce leaves, radishes and 2 leeks!  2 more leeks on Tuesday for Mrs W speciality(only)dish  sausage casserole.

the wet weather last week and now the warm weather has really started the plants growing, and I think that we wont be buying any more onions :), as our overwintering varietys are swelling nicely now
