Asparagus pea seeds arrived this morning
« on: May 31, 2013, 12:29 »
Amazon listing said ok to sow but I am wondering if that is right.

Also will they need supports. Etc

I have been pondering for ages about buying them and yesterday I finally took the plunge. The flowers are pretty even if nothing else.  ???

I sowed mine end of April, about 10 inches across now, final size about 24 inches.
I think you will be fine sowing some now in heat if possible. I planted some outside last week and they are doing OK. Mine are just for the flowers too but I will try the beans anyway.

You mean your garden is full of people wandering about with baskets and trolleys and a tearoom in one corner and a till near the gate?

Nope, but they do sprawl a little. I like the pods, but most people don't seem to...

Dont need supports.. Eat the pods when 25-40mm long - no longer or they get stringy. Simmer or steam for 5 minutes, drain, splosh butter and salt and eat.. delicious.

Mine are going to be planted out on the plot this weekend  :)  They are a veg which tends to divide opinion - some really not fussed by them, others love them  :)

That must be where I went wrong, someone gave me some to try and they were like bits of plastic.  I wasn't impressed.

They sprawl quite a bit and so are reasonably good at keeping the weeds down  :) They're also very nice chopped and cooked in an omlette
