I sew mine together too,  hubby often laughs at me with my darning needle in hand,  ball of twine in pocket and sewing on the plot! :)

I must be lazy LOL - I use cheap plastic clothes pegs, bring the 2 pieces of netting together, bend it over like a seam and then peg it.  I've never had problems using this method.

I do that on my older smaller hoops.
I treated myself to some BIG metal hoops last year and the netting clips came with them. A very strong wind will take the clips off overnight occasionally, not much bother to put them back :)
