greetings to all,thinking of putting some parsnips in pots to see if they grow,has anyone tried if so have deep do pots have to be and is compost ok as growing medium,thanks

Im doing the exact same thing this year, I have a square planter that about 14" high with standard compost and FB&B mixed in. just waiting for the snips to chit at the moment.

They like a really deep pot to allow for the tap root, other than that it's not a problem. Show competition growers grow them in barrels, but yours needn't be that deep

I tried mine in a blue water butt this year but I had used lidl co post and everything failed I it. Will try again maybe next year I the same tub

I frow carrots in up-turned dalek composters and have a few parsnips in loo rolls to go out soon so I will dib some in my up-side-down daleks and see how they go.

For the last few years I've grown all my parsnips in flower tubs with the bottom cut out. Place them on the soil and the tap root can go down into the soil as far as it wants. As you've got about one foot of straight root already it doesn't matter if it gets a bit wonky after that. Best yield was 3kg from a standard Morrison's flower bucket.
