Netting recommendations
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:14 »
I'm looking at getting a lot of bird netting for my plot as the pheasants keep eating everything.

I brought some of the wilkos 4x2m for £5 for my peas but I'm not paying that again!

Has anyone brought some online which has turned out to be ok quality? Or mesh cloches?

I got most of mine from Gardening Narturally http://www.gardening-naturally.com/

Not cheap, but it's really good quality, you can get it in the sizes you want and should last years. My £land netting doesn't compare.

Don't get posh birds like those around here but we net using free scaffolding mesh, works for the more common birds

Depending on how much you need but Debris netting / scaffolding mesh works out quite cheap and is really long lasting. If you dont need a full 50m roll, ask at your plot to see if someone else needs some and share a roll.
I use it for shading as well.

You need to shop around for a good price as prices vary considerably online but if you have a local scaffolding company they will you a roll and you should be able to collect.

Most scaffolding companies skip it under a certain size so if you don't mind skip raiding they will usuallynsay help yourself  :D

can the landowner deal with the pheasants? you would need to cover the plot sides and above as they normally roost in trees and fly over high fences.

Are they £5 now?  They were £3 when I bought them before.  But I treated myself last year to a 50m roll of debris netting, can't get much for nothing round here now.  Brilliant stuff.  Keeps everything off my veg!  And yes, use it for shading in the greenhouse too!

Thanks everyone I will makes some enquiries about debris netting.

£5 is for the black stuff not the green stuff. The green stuff is a nightmare to use on your own
