There is no need to buy them at all. A good handful of garden soil or a little diluted 'human liquid' work just as well. :)

Free ones are certainly useful, so I will chime in with Comfrey leaves and your own (or someone else's, if you're feeling liberal) collected wee.

I second the weee although isn't it only males wee that can be used, our compost bin dropped by half in about a month, liquid gold (that's what I tell hubby when I ask him to pee in a bucket) it's free so what's the excuse not too.

It's true!  Do decant it into the bin rather than shocking your plot neighbours though  :D  Mine gets regular doses of lady water but I understand that male urine is more effective. It would be!

Comfrey is a good speeder-upper and also I find that grass mowings really heat things up, in layers though, rather than dumping too much on in one go, which will then go slimey.

I think I might be putting too much grass cuttings in then!as when I cut the grass(once a week)it goes into the heap!

I haven't got my shed up yet and have been skulking in the toilet with an old coke bottle, so I am really pleased the hedges are greening; now I can unbutton and sprinkle freely.

What an unsavoury discussion

For the record, I fill a milk bottle and take it at the weekend (early, when no one is about).  First job each week.
