Overrun with primulas ...what to do?
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:41 »
Hi all,

My garden is a beautiful array of primulas, all different colours and everywhere after I have let them self seed for a few years. Now there really are too many, i haven't counted but i think a conservative estimate of 500 would be about right and i need the space for annuals.

I don't want to lift and throw away (I couldn't do that) and thought I could pot some up to sell for charity. Do you think they will need to go into compost or okay in the garden soil or a mix of both? I have loads of pots but might use the coffee cups from work (costa I'm sad to say) to make them a bit more 'recycled!).

Sorry I'm rambling, any other ideas what to do with them. I have got space at the allotment too.
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!

Yes, you could sell them  :)  I would do a mix of soil and potting compost as if they're in all soil it goes rock hard.  If you keep the leaves and flowers (if any) really clean they, and the pots, they will sell better than if they look untidy. It's worth spending a bit of time on the presentation for sale

Good luck  :)    You could edge some beds on the plot with them, or pop some in window boxes to glam up the shed  :)

I agree with CQ....hope you can sell some....I'm sure folk would love them, especially if they can see them in situ!
