Motionless chicken
« on: April 21, 2013, 20:18 »
One of my chooks, just sits in a corner of the pen, not moving much and not responding much. The others fuss around her a little bit, but she looks very forlorn. They are  5 or 6 years old btw.
Any idea what could be up. Shall I try the (useless) vet.

Sorry to hear your hen isn't well. Couple of questions:

Is she still eating & drinking.
Do her droppings look 'normal'
Is she still laying
Have you been able to pick her up to take a closer look at her

Answers to these may help point to the problem.

what type are they, have they been wormed recently. Is there red mite in the coop. Is she laying or stopped recently, are the eggs thin shelled. Light or heavy weight.

Found her dead the day after. No sign of mites - I used real creosote on the coop and this keeps them at bay.
I have used Flubenvet, so I think it must just be old age.

Sorry your hen died.   :(

From what I understand it is illegal to use creosote as it has been banned unless you have a license to use it.  Was it recently you creosoted the coop?
