They can take several hours to hatch so best to not interfere unless you think the chick is weakening and unable to get out of the egg itself.

If you do need to assist make sure your hands and anything the chick comes into contact with is sterile.  A flannel dampened with boiled water is fine to place the egg on.  If you have tweezers (sterilised) you can use them to gently break away some of the egg shell to reveal the chicks head.  Be careful in case the egg sack has not been fully absorbed so just take enough shell off for the chick to finish the job off itself.  Place the chick/egg back in the incubator as soon as possible.

Sometimes it just takes so much out of them but don't give up.  I had a quail egg I opened as I thought it was dud and I ended up with my hands covered in blood.  He wriggled around on his side for a couple of days and I was just about to dispatch him when he started chirping and running around like a mad thing.  He now pecks my hand if he gets the chance.  Such gratitude.

2 of them had it, poop hole is clear but its stuck on the fluffy feathers now just below. They keep on scratching. I tried wetting it but not much luck. Any suggestions?

Pasty bum if common in chicks.  Use a damp cloth to gently loosen the dried on poo to remove it.

You can apply a little vaseline to its vent to help prevent any more sticking.

No need to wet the chick crumb.  Best to put enough in for just over a day as they are messy little things.  You don't want them pooing in their food so change it daily if you can.

You will have to persevere trying to get the poo off.  You could try a small amount of sunflower/veg oil which should soften it.  Be careful with newspaper as they can slip on it and end up with splayed legs.  Kitchen roll has more texture and will give them some grip.

They are usually facinated with each others legs and peck them.  Make sure the pecking doesn't result in any injury as they can peck each other to death if they draw blood.

Pecking wasnt that bad lol. I'll keep an eye on them though and will try olive oil tonight when i get home.

I'll switch to kichen rolls then i wanted to put wood chips in but im worried they might start eating it.
