Why wait for main crop?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Agree with Dave, maincrop take the longest to mature so get them in first, or at least at the same time.

They can sit in the ground longer though, I want some new spuds in summer! Happy to wait a week or two for warmer soil for ones I can harvest much later

If you're happy to plant earlies, why wait to plant your mains, that need a lot longer to mature?

If you think the ground's OK for earlies, then it must be OK for lates. if your ground's OK for planting, I'd seize the opportunity before it all changes again.

I've covered some ground for last few weeks to warm, but only enough for one lot. Am working all week, then away for 10 days, hence 2nd ones need to wait.

Understood. You previous reply didn't explain this, it seemed as though you were sitting around waiting!

They've got to go in soon, as they're running out of puff, and the chits are getting a bit too noticeable!

They're getting cloched in any event, and there's a load of netting to guard against late May frosts, as long as I'm around to put them to bed...

Probably in a few days from now - gotta be done...:0)

And they go in at about 6" then get seriously earthed every now and then, to answer the question!

No, not at all.

All comments are constructive, aimed at helping the poster. I don't think that can be termed as being "touchy".
