no offence then if they are uncrontrolable they should be in a zoo, and not pets.

Sorry, got cats all around us here killing all the wildlife (baby birds etc.) and doing their bussiness in our garden digging up the seed beds and the owners just dont seem to care.

The wife even bought a bell for next doors cat because she said she could not afford one, we have never seen it on so that one too stills kills the birds.

I am sure they would look at it different if my dogs walked up the garden path with the moggy in its mouth  :D

sprinkle cheap ground supermarket pepper (20p per pot) on the offending areas.

once they try to sniff once they don't seem to come back, only one heavy sprinkle was enough in my garden. the rains washed it away now but no cat mess since.

Um I might get shot for this but I used cat mines. You dig a hole and blow up a balloon, place it in the hole and put a thin layer of dirt over it when the cat scratches it explodes (also has major comedy value after a bottle of wine)
That is just brilliant! I couldn't stop laughing and immediately hunted in the 'birthday bits' drawer in the kitchen (where I keep cake candles, paper plates and stuff) to see if I had any balloons.
Then my mind went off at a tangent and thought why not do the same thing (buried balloons) to my OH who thinks he knows best when it comes to planting shrubs.

What about filling the balloons first with flour!?   :D  :D

I'm vegan but cat is one animal I would consider eating if I felt it would keep the population down.

We have 8x8ft raised beds, just been out and covered two with chicken wire, and covered the others with last years pea sticks. I'm hoping they won't try to have a dig and a c rap if its all covered in something. Also have a sonar detector but only any good over short distances.

You know what..im really lucky because my cat never goes in other gardens, i know exactly where she poops, i know exactly what hers look like too.  She is such a good girl and i go out every morning and clear it up.  You will probably find it is male cats that do this as they are a lot more territorial than females.

You can get those sensor things that omit a water squirt, but please! there are a lot of cat lovers here (including me) so no cruel comments!!!!!

I do apologise if my flippant comment caused offense - it was rather insensitive.

are any of these ideas (mines, pepper) any good for foxes? Some people on the allotment think its clever to feed the foxes so there are quite a few bold ones around. As I have little children, I'd rather discourage Mr Fox's poop... and sharp teeth!  :D

We have the same problem with foxes on our allotment, sometimes the fox poo looks the same as cat poo.

thing is, cats dont know you have planted stuff, they dont know where to c rap and where not to c rap, so you cant blame them, they are just doing what nature intended, they dont know it is wrong, so whatever you try, keep it HUMANE!
