Go with the flow, Paul.

Some springs are colder and longer than others. Keep your potatoes free from frost but not too warm. Too much heat may give you very long, brittle shoots that tend to snap when the potato is planted - not good.

There is still loads of time to chit... and many people wait until Good Friday (near end of March) to plant their potatoes.

Down here in the south I just wait until the weather & ground warm up a little. Easter is a bit late for me and St Patricks Day (17th March) a bit early.

Don't panic... be patient - keep those tatties of yours warm but not too warm.
Good luck  ;)

As Paul says, just got with it and be guided by the weather. The weather has scant regard for planting maxims such as St. Patrick's Day, Good Friday, moon phases or whatever.

As for the snow in the Channel Isles, it's going to be short lived and I expect they've got theirs in already. Snow forms an insulating blanket and is far less of a problem than persistent frosts.

In the words of Oasis: "You gotta roll with it".
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I have just gone and covered my spuds up with newspaper, as it so sunny that I am concerned they might cook later. Freezing cold, but sunny

Opened the vents of the greenhouse too.

The lemon tree gave me a filthy look, I can tell you
