I have just received a huge pile of fresh cow manure, what is the nearest thing I can plant next to it and how far from it.

Regarding other things I would say anyway away from the urine run off if its too fresh

That's interesting, I'm only familiar with planting these on the compost - they've done well in my daleks in the past.

With regard to fresh cow manure, if you think about it, it is what the farmers spray direct on the fields and it doesn't kill them, but perhaps a bit of care with delicate plants nearby would be advisable.

I think I will try a couple of squashes/courgette in the beds either side they are about 3ft each way.

By the time you get round to putting out your squashes and marrows, the manure will have rotted down so will be an ideal bed. Mine go on a compost heap that uses chicken poo as the accelerator.

Because it's fresh Gavin and needs time to mature.

My comfrey is planted near the manure heap. The theory being that it's deep roots will trap and resurface nutrients that get washed down into the soil from the heap when it rains.
