I'm not growing peas this year [ haven't quite worked out the support sytem for them and every year they fall down! Fed up with that so having a break from peas.

But if I was growing them I would be starting them now in drainpipes in greenhouse or outside if it were milder than it was today!

Normally grow 'Hurst Greenshaft' - tasty peas. The Heritage variety 'Little Marvel' were very good when i sowed them in 2010 - they've been around since 1900 - not surprised as they're very sweet tasting. :)

One reason I try to grow early peas is to avoid those maggots tbh  :D

One reason I grow sugarsnaps is that you eat the whole pod so never know if you are getting a hidden protein boost!
The other reason is I just don't have room for proper peas.  :(
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

A memory from last year was when I grew purple mange tout "Shiraz" and my three year old was caught red handed eating them from the plant.  "Are you eating the mange tout" I asked.  "No mummy, he said, with purple staining all over his mouth and chin"!

I fancied purple podded peas I saw down at the Eden Project but they were ornamental only  :(

I sow peas in root trainer sections for early ones and sow main ones in 6foot lengths of old guttering to stop mice then take a trench out when peas 4inch high slides out of guttering easily .broadbeans are sown in root trainer sections first week in march   jezza

I've still got some for swapping if you like - see here.   If you don't have a swap, you could send an SAE.  PM me if you are interested  :)

They do look great when they are growing too, with very pretty pink and purple flowers as a bonus... and they taste good too  ;)
