Pruning climbing rose - Compassion
« on: January 30, 2013, 12:06 »
Hi, last year I put in a climbing rose called Compassion on a west facing fence and it seems to be very happy.  I think I need to give it a prune now that we're coming into spring.  Am I right?  Should I leave it for the first year? How do I know which bits to prune and how much?

Thanks
OG

If you're not sure I'd go carefully as if you cut into it too hard and we get a hard frost it could keel over.  You're just looking to shape the plant and tidy it up and remove anything obviously dead.
