Not been down for a couple of days  :(

Night off tonight so I will be ready to be down bright and early tomorrow. Need to earth up potatoes, get ready to plant some other stuff and weed.
Breaking new ground.............literally!

:) Just in case anyone thinks I'm too busy chatting to do any work, I am just back from the 'lotment. We hoed and weeded, picked out the side shoots of tomatoes, earthed up the leeks a bit. Picked 1 lb of yummy Strawberries and made a cuppa. Generally sat and nodded approvingly of our efforts which have been a bit slow in showing. Now at home in front of the telly watching the tennis!

A bit of hoeing that's all
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

It sounds as if you are digging up Somerset! How much plot do you have.  I've got the 1st flower on the courgette plants today and I think there is a tiny bud on a pumpkin :D

We have three, two are ours already dug and laid and then dads, trouble is dad has

A, realised his age
B, realised hes unfit
C, clueless
D, a bit lazy so hubby has taken on the digging. Its a hard plot as its been used and left, used and left and used and left, never really got on top off fully. I dont think any has been used fully at any one point. Lots put in and  never harvested, like spuds.

No wonder you have a lot of harvest. great for you. I must not get jealous again, or feel inferior. Ha Ha. I have half as much and am still a beginner, although a reasonably experienced gardener.

A pleasant escape for two whole hours:

Lifted loads of potatoes (rocket and Charlotte), pulled two lettuce, planted 4 late courgettes, hoed and watered then noticed the strawberries but had to dash.

Sometime very soon I'll be off again to cut the paths and pick the strawberries (another batch of jam making on the cards).

Today we had to collect 4 grandchildren aged nearly 6 to 10 1/2 from school as today they finished at 2pm. So, armed with a picnic of jam sandwiches we went to harvest the earlies....pentland javelin. We had only 5 plants so 1 each. The excitement from the youngest has not diminished from what he had when he was 3. Each time he spotted a potato he squealed, yelled, shouted at the top of his voice. He was very disappointed when the spuds stopped coming. We harvested 12 lbs altogether, down on last year but hey ho. The children watered their own pumpkin plants and again were delighted to find 1 or 2 flowers. I just love seeing children enjoying this sort of activity.

Not a lot due to a combination of getting home late from work, Sainsbury's delivering the shopping and then cook the dinner. So literally just watered in the greenhouse and pick a few little goodies.
