what to feed
« on: November 11, 2012, 07:33 »
Silly question but my OH says you should not feed layer pellets when the hens stop laying.

We have some layer pelts left and we do not intend to have anymore hens, so can we

finnish the pellets off. and what should ther diet be please.

If you're not going to keep feeding them layers, you could change to wheat which always was quite a bit cheaper but caught up in price this year, or mixed poultry grain whilst keeping an eye on the corn consumption not being too great as too much isn't good for them. If you stopped giving layers you would need to ensure they have access to grit. I think I'd be inclined to keep giving them layers, as old chickens can still lay the odd egg.
