Nice pressie from OH
« on: November 08, 2012, 13:25 »
OH brought this home that he picked up very cheaply.  Has been pulled apart, cleaned and refurbed - no sign of red mite or any other nasties.  It's small, but will be a very useful house for raising new stock or isolating any of the existing lot that get ill.

The big gang were immediately on the case - anything new must be investigated - 'tis the law according to them  ::)

Alphie checked it out quickly just in case it contained new laaayyyyddddeees, but soon lost interest - too busy showing off to his 2 girls

seeing your big girl in there shows just how small the runs are of these coops - yet they still advertise them as being big enough for 6 hens .
They do make very good hospital coops though. However if you decide to use it as a broody coop you may have to lift the littlies in and out for a week or two but after that they simply fly up the ramp  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

That's Beyonce my blue orp bantie but she's a bootilicious girl and about the size of a hybrid hen

I know what you mean Joy.  Yoda my tiny Serama is the little hen outside and I wouldn't keep 6 her size in a run that small.  Maybe a trio of very small bantams, but I think even for 2 standard sized hens, it would be a squeeze

I'll probably get feathered and sexed young pullets to raise in there.  Would love chicks but wouldn't want to deal with all the males.  My two Serama boys were free from a breeder trying to rehome what she could to avoid the inevitable  :)

I've got one of those coops that i just use for raising chicks or as a hospital wing. If its the same size as mine You can get 3 full size hens in but anything more is pushing it.

Last Feb when we had the snow, i had 3 in this one and 5 in my big coop. It had taken all day for my 5 to travel up the garden in the snow and they decided that enough was enough and they wernt going back to their own coop.  When i went to lock them away i found all 8 in this little coop. All squeezed in like sardines. My daughter and i had to carry the 5 down the garden in the snow and dark and put them away in their proper place  :nowink:

I've never used the run bit as a run,  as mine opens out into a large pen.

Its nice when you get a good surprise though

The markings on your girls are drop dead gorgeous. :)

The black and white one looks as if she has been sculpted.

there needs to be an emoticon showing a drooling, envious face. :D

Love how nosey they are being.

I have the same coop but it's where my two rabbits live, it's perfect for them with plenty of indoor space, unlike a normal hutch.

Ditto Willow Warren and Mrs Ball - henny beauty contest you have there!

I thought about picking one of those up cheap from freecycle or something to park at a friend's place for hensitting.  I know she wouldn't like it but OK for few days maybe and easy life for hensitter.
One grandma and 4 baby Pekins.
