Milky water poo
« on: October 06, 2012, 08:47 »
I hope someone can help! I have only had my chickens for a week now and when I let them out to play in the garden today I noticed one of them was pooping a milky liquid with no solids in it, except for a teeny amount of white stuff that looks a bit like cooked egg whites. I followed her around and she did this three times. She is still acting normal, wanting to run around the garden and peck at stuff but she's not had a normal poo all day :(

Thanks Craig! I'm hoping that's all it is! :D I'm very new to chickens (today is the 1 week anniversary of my first chickens :)) so I am trying to learn what I do and don't need to freak out about

It might just be her adjusting to a new home. Keep an eye on her and post up here for advice if she doesn't improve. Are you feeding layers pellets or mash. Is it what they were fed before you bought them? They can be sensitive to changes in diet. Mine were on mash so I bought a sack of the same make of mash and when that was getting low I gradually mixed in pellets until they were on just pellets. Mine get upset tums if I give them veg, so I just let them eat grass while they're out and I keep a rota of trays seeded in the greenhouse, so that if they can't come out for some reason they get a tray of fresh grass in the run to nibble.

Its urates in the poo, otherwise known as chicken wee. I wouldnt worry, especially if the chix are drinking alot. Yes if poultry do get startled, they do poo/wee.

Thanks everyone! I followed her around evaluating all her poos for the rest of the day (woo, exciting Saturday!  lol) and most of them seems pretty normal so I'm going to just keep a close eye on her and make sure she's eating/drinking normally. Will report back if her situation changes!
