What's growing in Japan?
« on: July 09, 2012, 13:56 »
Now I am picking a pringles tube full of cherry tomatoes every 3 days. There are large Spanish tomatoes changing to red, and there are a lot of cucumbers ripening. Okra. There's plenty to pluck/ harvest from the stalk. There's a lot of Shiso, and Pak Choi too. Basil aplenty, planted around the tomatoes to keep the flies off. Mint, as ever, and potatoes. May Queen potatoes, Kita akari, and danshaku. (all google-able). Soybeans not far off, and there's pumpkins on the vine, and watermelons in the undergrowth. Chard has poked its head through the gap in the watermelon leaves, and there's Cosmos keeping the sweet corn covered. Chrysanthemums also in waiting, and the sweet potatoes continue to creep their shoots, across the lot.

Stick beans have come and gone, as have the garden peas. Daikon radishes of the summer variety, continue to grow. They are growing quite well. Not bad for the only white chap in the village, and thus, the only allotment holder that is not Japanese! Hechima (loofah), and Goya are climbing, and we've just had more of this years 2nd crop of strawberries.

Oh, and I have no greenhouse. It's sweltering enough :)

Approved and can be viewed in the Gallery.

Sean, you might also like to consider starting a diary where you can post your photos and keep them together, on this board:

Gardeners Diaries

If you need help, I'm sure any number of people who already operate diaries could assist.

Thankyou. I've just checked the diaries section. And I'm thinking you're right. I'm also thinking it will encourage me through the hot days of summer. A goal, hooray !
