hi all,
ive lifted a few garlic early due to others having rotted and was wondering could the foliage be treated like leek and be eaten?

I've never eaten the foliage, mostly because once the garlic is almost ripe, the foliage goes downhill very fast. Also, you must watch out for rust spots on the leaves, something you don't want to eat either.

I suppose if you try it early in the season it might be edible but then you'd limit the nutrients and energy to the plant overall.

hi trillium,
the folliage is perfect, no marks on them at all only lifted them as the wet weather had rotted the outer rows and i wanted to get something from them

By all means, try them and let us know how they were. We could be missing out on a useful food source.

we don't eat the leaves but if you take the leaves off the stem up to the bolted bulb at the top can be cooked and eaten. we used some in our cooking.
