Any ideas to these symptoms?
« on: June 17, 2012, 23:01 »
One of our hens stopped laying last year after laying many shelless eggs.
I have been keeping an eye on her to see if there is a reason for this but nothing really sticks out. So far she has stopped laying, she has a watery vent, she has no feathers on her breast bone but there is no reason for this, the others are not doing it and she could be doing it herself but I have never seen her. Where the feathers are growing back there are red stumps under the skin. You would never know she had no feathers as it is covered over by the other feathers.

She eats and drinks well, she was 2 this year brown medalsham ranger I think she is.
Just wondered if anyone had an ideas as to what it could be, I couldn't feel any eggs and her tummy felt the same as the other hens.
Thanks
Gained an allotment on the 19th June 08, 135ft by 40ft! eekk. Finally after 4 years it is looking like an allotment and not a jungle

We have 5 lovely hens in the garden, fish, 2 dogs and 2 canaries

A couple of mine have the feather loss but they didn't molt in the winter so I think it is a partial molt.

Not sure on the watery vent, have they been wormed regularly with Flubenvet?

Yes they were wormed last month. She is an odd pickle as she is well in herself and has been like this for about 6 months now. Maybe it is just old age lol
