Hi there got my allotment recently 60ftx14ft and have always wanted to grow asparagus.  I think my plot size is small to average and therefore doing this is tieing space up but I still want to go ahead.  Most places seem to sell 10 or 25 crowns I'm obviously going for 10.

I'm planning on having raised beds throughout but dont know as yet what is going where as getting the plot tidy is the first objective.  I dont however want to miss getting my asparagus in this autumn.  Whats the minimum size bed should I make for 10 crowns? And do you have any tips regarding growing asparagus?

I put 10 in an 8x4 raised bed, 2 rows of 5 crowns staggered - but to be honest its a little too cramped in there. If I were you - Id do a 2ft bed across the width of your plot and space them 16" apart.

But that's just me - other will think differently.

Crowns are normally spring planted, giving the summer for them to establish before the winter.

My crowns are about 15 ins apart and they are fine.

 I like Lardman's suggestion, as it means you will be able to reach the soil to weed them easily without having to fight with six foot high asparugus fern to get to the middle

Unfortunately with it being 14ft wide this would not allow for a path.

If I did 2x 2ftx7ft beds that would be the equivalent?

Why did you suggest a 2ft wide bed Lardmen? Was it for the reasons sunshine gave?

Just seen they can grow 60" tall so you need to consider other veg/fruit in that area for shading reasons?
