Anyone growing spacemaster cucumbers?
« on: June 11, 2013, 12:36 »
I only had one of my spacemaster cucumber seedlings that survived.  It is looking well and is now in the greenhouse border.

It has 3 little cucumbers on it, but talk about compact growth!  It isn't spreading at all, but is sitting there in one little clump.  Is this right?  I've never grown spacemaster before.

Thanks for any thoughts!

I've finally got 3 to germinate, but they are way, way behind yours!

After putting this post on here, I had a google.  A couple of images looked like my plant.  Several little cucumbers peeping out from a cluster of leaves, but on another site.  The writer said that their plants was climbing 2-3 foot up the supports!

mmmmm    strange!

I'm not that daft Vietta.  I know they are a space saving plant, but I was trying to find out if they stay as a compact plant on the ground or if they spread AT ALL.

Apparently the vines grow to around 2-3 ft, so they MAY eventually need the frame they are growing next to.

Please keep us up to date with their progress and taste (when ripe!) because they sound like they may be worth a punt......
If they do stay compact, that is!! :D

Well, having googled, some people have said they grow the spacemaster and moneymaker, and spacemaster has a better taste.

They are still sitting there in their little clump, but there are 4 little cucumbers on the plant at the moment, one of which is about 4 inches long!

Apparently you should pick them when they are 6-8 inches long.

I got the seeds from Premier Seeds, so they don't come in a packet with lots of info.  So my first google didn't come up with much info either, but I am getting better at finding it!  ;)

I should be able to let you know in about a week what they taste like!  Just waiting for the tomato plants to get a bit bigger now!   :) :)
