watering - how much and how often?
« on: April 18, 2012, 21:05 »
i really struggle with this and never know if i've over/under done it or how often i should be doing it at the different stages of seedlings.
if i can cover them with plastic when sown i do until germinated  so i dont have to water but not all things  i can do this with.
so those that are not covered then what? and once the seedlings are up then what do i do?
i always water from below if possible.
does dry compost on the surface mean not enough water?

sorry for all the q's
these 2 take all my time, whatever is left the veggies get, poor hubby is at the end of the queue.

I usually gauge by weight, even with a module tray.

If you heft it in your hand when watered, you can get an idea, and then as it dries out it gets lighter.

Very light = a good soak from underneath required.
