Has anyone used the sonic pest repellers that you can buy to keep animals off your flower borders? Would they work with chickens - would they do them any harm?

I got one to repel cats (before getting chickens) because I was fed up of cats pooing in my garden & kids sandpit.  Sort of worked for a while (the cats walked around it or later on would sit a few feet away staring at it).

Chickens seem to be better cat deterrent :!:

It's still plugged in and working and the chickens are completely oblivious to it.  Occasionally stand on top of it to try and reach bean plants that i'd surrounded by chicken wire (now gone for winter).  It can just be seen with red light on (activated by chickens) in picture below.

Thanks Fat Hen, lovely picture of your chooks, looks like it'd be a waste of money if I bought one then, I did give them a quick jet blast of water from the hose today (just behind them not on them) they jumped out sharpish and havent tried going back in - maybe they'll associate the flower beds with cold water!

I reckon chickens are pretty crafty and they'll be back at your flowers if they find them tasty, when your not looking.

I'm sure that when i'm pottering about with pot plants (toms n chillis) they send some in to distract me so others can go round other side and have a good munch.

Ta!  The ginger one's a Silkie (Daisy) & the white a Sultan (Polly), Polly's not looking so good at moment she's moulting heavily and feeling sorry for herself.

Polly likes spending alot of time in house and often found sitting on kitchen doormat (the dogs, 2 german shepherds, just walk around her to get out).

The little bit of grass I had (some seen in picture) as been completely eradicated by my 3 new chucks (ex battery hens Rita, Sarah & Elle).

That would probably cheer her up  ,  as long as they like the same tv channels

I had to get rid of Eddy   because of complaints from neighbours  , he was a beautiful Silkie cockerel 8)  who absolutely adored Polly, he even brought her food, such a gentleman, though he could be a bit rough with her.  He is the picture in my Avatar.
