[Miss Petal]

I am new to keeping silkie hen as a pet and have just notice one of my hens keeps parting her feathers on her back and what looks like biting.
After a quick inspection I noticed that she seems to have some kind of growth, the growth comes straight up from the skin, not anormal in colour is about 1/2cm in height and 2-3mm in width and circular.
Does anyone know what this may be???

Sounds like a preen gland    Totally normal and nothing to worry about - google it and check the pictures match what you have seen

that is her preen gland and she will be getting oil from it to preen her feathers - all hens have one

Always best to check if you are concerned    Well done for noticing it anyway - close observation and checking of your birds is one of their best defences against disease and pests
