Put some cloth on top of them.  It could cause cold burns if the ice cubes get in too close contact with the hen.

The purpose is to lower the hens raised body temperature.  A small pack of frozen peas could be used and then refrozen (don't eat them though )

Oh this all sounds very familiar!  Daisy stopped laying a week ago, and developed an evil glint in her eye and puffs herself up to twice the size.  I put her out in the run with the other 4, and she is fine, scratches about, eating and drinking okay, but as Rosemary says, first chance, and she's back in like a rat up a drainpipe.   I have also  been dipping her petticoats in cold water each morning since Saturday - boy, does she tell me off  :x !

But now... only 3 eggs today - Lily has only decided to join in the egg strike!

What I did also notice is that the red lobes either side of their head (sorry, don't know the technical name   ) have a white centre - the other hens don't have this.  Is this a broodiness sign?

Ear lobes  -  Don't think that's anything to do with being broody.
