Hi all,

We have recently moved house,and have a nice big garden. Time was running out for this year so i hurriedly dug some beds and planted some caulis, celeriac and a few other bits and bobs. The ground  was always grown on years ago but has been left to the weeds for the past 10 years or so. The soil is lovelly and dark and deep but when i tested the PH, It is showing between 7 and 7.5. Too Alkaline. What are the best quick fixes and long term answers to this problem. Thanks.

Istand to be corrected but i think thats only slightly alkaline and should be fine for many veg

1) how looks like your pH testr kit?
2)are you sure that you read pH proper?
For me sounds like you are lucky to have almost neutral soil, so you can grow most leaf-veges, probably should have good onions(if there is proper drainage, otherwise they will be rotten) and carrot. If you want to drop pH(i don't think it's a good idea unless you going to grow sweet potatoes) just add compost and till well
