I grow all my veggies in raised beds, using the square foot gardening method. In one of the beds I have some free space where I'm harvesting the last lettuce, just in front of the tomatoes.
I was thinking of trying beetroot, but I'm wondering if having the tomato roots so close will disturb the beetroot too much. Since the beds are lined at the bottom, last year when I pulled the tomato plants at the end of the season I found that the tomato roots had "travelled" to the neighbouring squares.

I should think you'll be OK; beetroot don't go very deep after all.  Just make sure they get enough water.

I have successfully grown beetroot in my square foot front garden so I think they will be fine.

I think round ones might be better than cylindrical, as they don't go so deep
