We've not seen foxes (we're in a rural area) but have been very impressed with our electric netting - except when the earth etc builds up & shorts it out.

The dogs stung their noses about 2 or 3 times & now treat it with respect.  We & the teenage boys have all taken an occasional shock through being careless (serve us right) and it keeps the girls in their big area - they know if it's working or not & only hop over when it's not electrified.

I found this on a commercial site, but I'm sure the info is available elsewhere:
Study on Fox predation on Lesser Tern Colony,
"Tracks and scats of the foxes were first noticed near the colony on 28th. May, and almost daily thereafter. On 18, 19, and 20th. June, observers recorded that the incubating terns seemed "skittish, nervous and uneasy." This phenomenon was first thought to be associated with hatching but no chicks were noted. Nest numbers decreased from 138 to 129 on 20th. June, to 61 on 22nd. June. By 23rd. June only 45 tern nests remained. Fox tracks crisscrossed the colony.
On 24th. June the electric fence was erected. On 25th. June we noted a slight increase to 48 nests; a week later, 2nd. July, we counted 60 nests, and by 6th. July, 85 nests. Fresh fox tracks were seen near the colony, but they never came closer than 10 ft to the electric fence, no tracks were found in the trial area. New nests outside the fence were consistently taken by the Foxes-none survived." At the end of the trial the fence was turned off and for over two weeks the tracks never crossed it.
Unfortunately due to fox predation they suffered heavy losses and only one young fledged. The following year an electric fence was erected around the nesting site and this proved extremely effective at excluding foxes, so that 31 pairs reared a record 29 young."

Well that explains why we are never bothered by vermin elephants.  I though it was the white powder.

I am so sorry for you loss!  That is my greatest fear for my hens!  Use very heavy gauge wire and put your hen house and run on cement slabs.  Also, when your hens go into the hen house at night, blockade the door with something.  We have a sliding door and I use a plank of wood to wedge it tight and then double lock the outside run door.  Your husband to have a widdle around the perimeter of your hen house and run.  I know - sound gross - but it is a deterrent too!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Well that's Ok for plan A but what if that fails where's the back up plan!?

What happens if you are single or the fox has learnt how to drive a JCB and has an oxyacetylene torch, you'd be completely exposed.

We are being plagued by a fox at the moment, Im sure that there must be a nest/lair/hide/whatever its called. Ive actually seen the fox twice now, its huge and a browny red colour. The last time I saw it, it was in our neighbours field and it stopped in its tracks and looked at me before running away. Ive lost a cockerel and my 2 grey chooks, so we are bringing forward our plans for a very secure run with electric fencing. We will finish it by next weekend. We are sure we will save money in the long run as its expensive each time we have to replenish our stocks, and that's aside from the heartbreak it causes. Im gutted though that it means that my girls will not be what I class as "free range" and I worry what it will do to their morale.
