I guess the question is in the subject line really.

I don't have any protection immediately at hand and not really got the time to build a small polytunnel.

The plants are all outdoor types but I do worry about a late frost.

Start of June is the rule of thumb for York - I guess Sheffield won't be much different.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

doh! I planted them far too early - by a good 7 weeks! I can't believe I mis read the packet and sowed them for the greenhouse season, not the outdoor season.... what a berk!

As some plant are already developing a truss I think they will become potbound and limited.

Is it too late to sow again (as much as it feels a shame to throw my current plants away I think it might be essential)

I intend to sow mine this week so definitely not too late.

You could try potting the existing ones up, and putting them out during the day so long as it's going to be 10C+, but bringing them back in at night.  Would help pollination and gives a chance of not throwing away the ones which are growing.

I've been hardening them up for the past fortnight.  Each night when I bring them in they take up more and more space and have run out of space in my kitchen for them all (about 10 plants).  I think I'll just transplant them all into buckets at the weekend and at least i'll avoid them being potbound for too long.

I'll also sow some more seeds in the pots I free up.

Irrespective of whether you've been hardening them off up till now, it is still too cold for them to be out overnight.  Below 10C and they sulk, or turn blue, or die.

I didn't realise that 10 degrees C was the minimum that toms require, thanks for that :)

I'll keep my eye on the forecast.
