« on: January 07, 2011, 08:02 »
ok i have 2 hens laying out of 5, so im thrilled to bits  :D
trouble is they are laying between shutting them away at about 5-30 and letting them back out around 7-30 ish (depends when it get light enough.)
this is the first time they have ever laid im assuming they will sort their timings out ??

do they still lay in the nest boxes or just under their perches? If the latter try getting a few pot/rubber/pot eggs and place them in the nest boxes. It takes about 25 hours to produce an egg so their timings will alter and also the days will be getting longer so chances are they will be awake when they lay  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

They are possibly laying early morning which is fine. :)

I have noticed with the dark mornings we are having, that one of mine regularly lays an egg (in the nestbox) prior to me opening the henhouse up at about 0730. As Joyful says it takes about 25 hours to do produce an egg and as there is only about 9 hours daylight at the moment something has to give! I am sure everything is fine.
