Hempcore Cancerous???
« on: December 21, 2010, 13:56 »
Hi,

I ordered Hempcore from my nearby feed store and collected my large bag of Hempcore then proceeded to another feed place to get my Garvo supply. (sigh) wish I only had to go to one!!  The place that I get the Garvo from was kind enough to take it to my car and upon seeing my massive bag of Hempcore said you do realise that it was banned from everywhere but here due to the spores causing cancer.  I was flabbergasted WHAT????  I got home and started to do searches but can't find anything to back this up.  Does anyone know anything or was this guy just wanting me to buy his (which he did speal off how great his was and how much cheaper etc).  Thanks ... ???

Hemcore is quite safe and has no spores that cause cancer.  I've never heard of it being banned anywhere.  He is either totally missinformed or just trying to scare you.

never heard of that (I get mine from the same place that supplies my Garvo feed  ). and can find no mention of it being so. In fact I have managed to find whilst searching for any proof of this some organic ladies products using hempcore for the absorbancy, so if recommended for that then it should be safe (this was on an American site I think - the land of litigation)

I also think people hear the word hemp and get the wrong idea about the product - it is a by product from the hemp used for rope making  :)

I think he may be mistaking hemp for bracken which does have dodgy spores.

Yeah I am wondering if he was trying to scare me so that I would change to his stuff.  It could also be he was mistaken and got confused.   I wish the place I buy the Hempcore from would also sell Garvo, so I don't have to go to two different places (sigh)  I have tried to talk my Hempcore supplier to get Garvo even gave them the phone number for the retailer here that they would need to contact.  Keeping fingers crossed!!

Thanks everyone for replying was a bit concerned thanks for easing my mind

where I used to get my hemcore and allen and page organic feed wouldn't get garvo in for me despite the rep talking to them so I changed suppliers. I also want to try fancy feed layers but neither of my suppliers will get this in either soI now have got to shop around for one that will.

I wonder if this stems back to the fact that at one time it was illegal to grow hemp in America?

This was because hemp can be made into many many things including clothes which are extremely hard wearing. This frightened the large fabric manufacturers making man-made fabrics and pressure was brought to bear to ban it. I've no doubt that scare-mongering tactics would have been used. Just a theory. You can now find shops in the States who specialise in things made from hemp.

Have a great Christmas :) :) :)
