Hi, I have a large unopened bag of compost going spare. Can I use it for the hens dust baths or is it not suitable? Thanks Maggie

Hi Maggiem. I've used potting compost for dust baths but I also added some sand pit sand. As long as you can keep it dry it will be perfect.

Thanks orchardlady. I don't have any sandpit sand so I'll just put the compost in for them. It will soon be wood ash time again! The evenings are starting to cool down here now and I am so looking forward to having the stove lit at nights again. My hens love bathing in the ash! Maggie

wood ash?  I hsave a large open fire and had never thought to give it the hens to dust in.
