osteospermums propergation
« on: August 19, 2010, 13:26 »
Has anyone managed to propergate their osteo's.  Mine don't seem to root.  The cuttings don't die or rot (well not for the last 4 weeks anyway), but just don't seem to root.  I cut at an angle just wher a leave was.  Does it take ages am I being impatient, or should I root in water first.

thanks
Sheila

I usually cut straight across just a tiny amount below where the lower leaves were and root in sandy compost and keep somewhere warm.
I've never needed rotting powder, is it worth trying some though?

I know some of the new hybrids don't root as easily as the old style ones do, though :(

Good luck

That really what I should try I have them outdoors, but maybe in the conservatory would be better, as its not as hot the last two weeks.  I always find rooting powder hit and miss, I know other people have success with it, but I seem to kill the cuttings when I put it on probably to heavy handed LOL.

Anyway no harm in trying allmethods,  I am determined.

PS its those osteo's I complanined about being weedy and half dead and got my money back, they have blossomed into nice little plants now, I feel a little bit guilty but not much cos they were pathetic when arrived and three did die.
