I only got mine at the weekend and they were still biro sized so i picked out the fattest and took the others with me to the plot anyway to put on the compost. After a happy time putting all the holes in the ground I found I more holes than I realised and had to use the spares rescued from the compost heap ( never that good at maths) which could only give a darning needle a run for its money but then OH said we'll never eat 70 leeks Ah little does he know... :D :D :D

its my first time growing them and i used the cat tray method from this site, DD i think it was, they did look a bit pathetic at one point so i stuck some growmore on them! not sure if i should have but they grew well, just put last ones in the ground this week and they are about as big as my average sized middle finger

Hi binner,I'm not on expert at growing anything except weeds. But someone, I think mumofstig, said that leeks like regular feeding, so the growmore will have done them good.

We've just had a right good downpour, so I'm hoping it will have spurred my leeks and onions on.

yes i would say it is, your only hope is that you can find some plug plants left in the garden centre ready to plant out

mine went in as biro-refills and are now fat HB pencils, like the ones you used to use at primary school... 8)  :nowink:
Now then, I am a very pleasant lad from York.  I have a decent half plot on Holgate allotments.

Mine are still doing OK. I chopped back the leaves to about two inches long as it was so hot, to try to stop them losing too much water before the rotts got back into action..

Lots of people say not to do this, but it seems to have helped this year  8)

Better than mine !  Mine are still like grass! It was very dry here in May and June ... I think July is making up for it though. As long as they are a half decent size by the end of september i will be happy I think.  :D Then next year I'm gonna grow me some MEGALEEKS ................. :nowink:

This is my thickest one! :(  I'm struggling to weed around the thin ones as there's not much difference between them and the grass. Except the grass grows...lol
