the guinea fowl are hatching!!
« on: June 28, 2010, 08:37 »
well just been out to move the 2 broodies off the guinea fowl eggs (so they can eat, drink etc) and under Dannii is one chick partially out and when I went to Brenda Lee just outside the nest box is a bit of discarded shell. Their due day is Wednesday so like my araucanas they are hatching 2 days early. Fingers crossed all 8 make it  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

Any boy keets will be dispatched when old enough - supposed to be very tasy  :D.

So far 3 keets and all are different colours plus one abandoned egg. Brenda Lee has 1 ordinary coloured and 1 lavender coloured, she also had the duff egg but don't know what happened to the forth as there is no sign .
Dannii has got 1 white and grey plus she is still on the other 3 eggs.
Really please I have several colours, just got to hope they grow up to be better tempered than the other 2 guineas
When the mums bring them out I will take photos - they are just so cute  :D

Congratulations!

They are very tasty, and sadly do often tend to be thugs too!

My aunt had a couple of flocks a few years ago, and they would actually gang up on the chickens and chase them around and beat them up!!- bit like the velocoraptors from Jurassic park!

She had considered keeping more to have as a breeding stock, but decided in the end they were too nasty to the chooks- and it was Indian Game Cockerels they were beating up!!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....
