Does anyone know how long these are been going for?

Would they have been bred initially by crossing French Copper Blacks with Blue Marans and selecting to keep the Copper gene?

Do all Marans have the same conformation?  What I mean is would a Blue Marans be exactly the same as a French Copper Black apart from the blue gene and being E rather than ER (and I think the Copper comes from Silver/RedGold gene?)

I'm not au fait with the colour genetics, but Copper Blue Marans aren't a standardized colour, as as such are not accepted in the Standard (if you wanted to show them).

Lots of info on Marans here (lots of annoying music too unfortunately) - if your French is up to it, there is much more comprehensive info on the French version of the site.

One other thing... if you wanted to show ANY Marans, the Poultry Club UK do not accept the French feathered legs (just as in france, the SCAF do not accept English clean legs)

Thanks Casey - I found the American site but not that one.  It takes a bit of figuring which is which as names seems to vary for the same thing.

I can't see myself getting into showing although choosing something that is popular may be a factor from the point of view of placing/selling offspring, especially the males.

I like the idea of the Marans as there seems to be such a lot going on and so much one could do with the genetic make up.
